I have a lovely gift from our good friend Fangorn - some new Cor Bloks to enjoy!
The Gate of Moria

The Journey through Lorien

The Chamber of Records (?)

I've tried to enlarge this one so the quality has gone a bit pixilated. But I think it's clear enough to see the wonderful arm of the Troll reaching in.
And one we've see before, but this is a better scan:
The Battle of the Hornburg

These make me long for an exhibition of Blok's scattered work, or (even better) a book with them all in. Don't you just love the Horn of Gondor....?

These are wonderful, it would be marvellous if someone published a a book about Cor Blok. Thanks for posting the paintings and thanks to Fangorn for sending them to you! They are like Lowry paintings with a Tolkien twist! I love the journey through Lorien with the blindfolds and the Elvish guards . . .

What fabulous finds! Thanks so much Iolanthe and Fangorn. I love the painting of the Battle of the Hornburg, but I still think that my favorite Cor Blok is "Riddles in the Dark." It is SOOOooo spare and conveys the bleakness and desperation of Bilbo's situation so economically. His style is just wonderful.

They are wonderful, aren't they? I love the way everyone is turning around in The Gates of Moria with an 'Er... what was that?' look and I especially like Boromir and Aragorn and those hats!
There must be many more Bloks out there in different collections.

Oh, yes! The black hats and the big black beards on Aragorn and Boromir are so interesting. It's like Blok has put a big sign on them saying, "These are the Men! You know, those big tall Gondorians."

. Can I order it now please?
From The Tolkien LibraryTolkien Calendar 2011 will feature art by Cor Blok
After the Tolkien calendar for The Lord of the Rings (2007), The Children of Hurin (2008) and The Silmarillion (2009) and The Lord of the Rings (2010) we will get a very interesting new take on the Tolkien calendar 2011.
The official Tolkien calendar, this year will contain 13 paintings inspired by 'The Lord of the Rings', and will feature many previously unseen works of art by the Dutch artist, Cor Blok.

I've added it to my shopping list on Amazon.com and signed up for an alert so I'll be notified as soon as it's available. I gather that these calendars sell out rather quickly, and I MUST have one!

Visiting Cor Blok
Well indeed! I have seen things you would not believe!! A huge collection of unpublished Lord of the Rings illustrations... it was like I fell into a dream.
Cor Blok was very nice and we spent a complete day together... a day long to remember!
