Novembre CotM and Other Calendars
Hello to all -
Updated the Calendar of the Month for Novembre (not a typo!) at:
www.tolkiencalendars.com
Hope you enjoy it. Also, added a page (which is very much under construction still) for the 2010 issues that have started coming out.
Also, my daughter and I will soon print the 2010 HI/NETS calendar (now the third in this series.) Malcolm will have some for the exhibition at ADC in March, and René will have some on his Tolkienwinkel site, too. And Beyond Bree (as members already know) will issue their first calendar since 1994 for 2010 (many thanks to Dan Smith) and in color, too!
Away from The Green Hill Country,
Parmastahir
p.s. - Which artist and what thread at TORN?

Many that live deserve death. And some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them? Then do not be too eager to deal out death in judgement. For even the very wise can not see all ends.

But I'm not sure about the internet etiquette of revealing a user's real name in this way.
So maybe I shouldn't say any more!

Sing and be glad, all ye children of the West,
for your King shall come again,
and he shall dwell among you
all the days of your life.
for your King shall come again,
and he shall dwell among you
all the days of your life.

Good Question!
Hi Merry -
I have no idea what the Internet etiquette is either! But if it makes you feel any better, you could easily put two and two together and come up with my real name from the HI/NETS blurb. I discoverd Iolanthe's "Spirit of the Trees" last December (check out our posts on page 18 of this thread.) I will repeat what I wrote then: "Spirit of the Trees is unlike anything that I have seen before in composition, color, or concept. EXCELLENT!" She very generously allowed me to use it in the 2010 HI/NETS calendar where it holds a place of honor: the illustration of the Summerdays centerfold. I think it fascinating still and am MORE than pleased that her work is in the calendar along with Henning Janssen, Ruth Lacon, Jef Murray, and Ted Nasmith (not too shabby company, you will agree!)
We finalized the layout of the calendar last night and will soon go to print. (I just need to find an evening to travel over to her place of business.) We will probably print less than 100 of these. So if you would like one (and be able to display Iolanthe's work this year), please order early.

No, I'm sure that's OK Merry - anyone taking a look at Iolanthe's gallery pages here on MEJ can follow links to her website if they want to find out more anyway.
It's great to see her in such illustrious company!

I'm just as thrilled to be in the calendar as Parmastahir is with the picture
. I never thought in the early days of the first LotR film that I'd see myself mentioned on TORn
. Fabulous!
I love the cover of your Calendar of the Month, Parmastahir, and it has my favourite John Howe painting of Smaug curled up over his hoard (January).

Now let the song begin! Let us sing together

Congratulations Iolanthe! I picked out your name at TORN right away, but, like Merry, wasn't sure about the "internet etiquette" involved. How wonderful to see your art featured in a Tolkien calendar!

Going to print!
Hi Iolanthe -
We are going to print the calendar on Saturday. I should be addressing all orders (that we have received so far) on Sunday. So I should be posting them on Monday. Long story short, your copies should be on their way that day. Thank you again for allowing us to publish your illustration. I still think it quite wonderful!
Away from The Green Hill Country,
Parmastahir
p.s. - If anyone wants a copy of the calendar, please visit www.herenistarion.org Ordering info is there. All proceeds benefit the activities (website, journal) of HI/NETS. Thanks!

December CotM and other Tolkien Calendar News
Hello to all -
Updated the December Calendar of the Month on:
www.tolkiencalendars.com
Beyond this feature, have started a 2010 page where you can find the new ones that are coming out. I LOVE this time of year! The Green Hill Country turns white, the 2010s start arriving, and the holidays are near at hand. Merry Christmas and a VERY Happy New Year to everyone!

p.s. - If anyone wants a copy of the 2010 HI/NETS calendar featuring Iolanthe's work in the centerfold (a place of honor which this illustration deserves), order soon! There are only four copies unspoken for at this time (and I'm aware of at least person who said that he would be getting one!)

There are quite a few illustrations I've never seen before in this month's calendar. I love the Roger Garland 'Smaug' (August). I can't believe I've never come across it before! I love the fantastic raven (October) too. No one can paint ravens better than John Howe so I'm wondering if this could be his - I can't quite read the caption at the bottom
. It's very Arthur Rackham.
Merry Christmas, Parmastahir, and enjoy all those wonderful new calendars!

You Are Correct!
Hi Iolanthe -
You are correct. October is "The Ravens" by John Howe. I must somehow convince him to contribute to the HI/NETS calendar. And a very Merry Christmas to you too!
