Believe it or not I'm still waiting for my copy so I've emailed the Tolkien Society. I'm keen to get booked up for Oxonmoot asap as well as to see what my painting looks like!

And yes, I do keep all my copies of Amon Hen . . . . LOL

Marbretherese, the last time that happened to me, my membership had lapsed. They never send you a notice. Yes ... I would check it out with them.

I was just trying to remember if I got renewal letters or not, then remembered I pay by direct debit. If they need to remind people they really should - it's a great way to lose members

I think it's always a problem with having just digital copies - they look different on everybody's screens and there is no benchmark for how they are supposed to be reproduced. But - it is great to have them out there for others to enjoy

TolkSoc have confirmed that my membership is up to date. Apparently Amon Hen was sent out at the same time and I haven't got that either. So frustrating!

As regards the colour reproduction of your images, don't forget that magazine printing is a completely different process to that used to create digital printouts. Digital used three colours (RGB) and magazine printing four colours (CMYK). So even if a magazine printer had your digital printout in front of him he would not be able to reproduce it exactly. Plus, different pages in the magazine track with one another - they are usually printed 4-up or even 8-up, which means the printer has to make a colour compromise across all four (or eight) pages involved. And colour can vary on the same page throughout the run, even with a small print run!

I work in magazine publishing production, and we get queries like this all the time . . .

Well, I've now received my copies of Mallorn and Amon Hen. The colour of my painting on the inside back cover is a bit pale, like yours, Iolanthe - it might have happened when the image was changed from RGB to CMYK, or maybe the covers are just generally a bit under-inked. But it's good to see it.

I'm pretty pleased about the poem on page 43, too

Which poems did they publish? Are they from our Yule Poetry Contest by any chance?

They published my Ballad of Sam Gamgee, which I think was from the 2008 Yule Competition. Or possibly 2007 . . . I can't find it on MEJ now. Originally I sent it in with my painting Spring Surpassed his Wildest Hopes thinking they might put the painting opposite the poem. In fact, they're nowhere near each other, but I'm not complaining

I might well send them my Tuor poem from the 2009 competition for the next issue!

Ladies I was going to PM each of you but what the heck I've got your attention here.

Would anyone mind if we made the creative forum here public? We have been thinking in the back room of trying to attract new folk by making some changes. We thought perhaps having this forum open would attract those of like interests and perhaps to encourage them to join us.

Any and all thoughts are welcome.

I think that's a great idea! our galleries are pubic, after all, and it would be great if other artists posted their Tolkien art here (speaking as one who hasn't had time to produce any Tolkien related art so far this year

).
