That would be fine with me also. My work was public on the WRoR website before they downsized, so I wouldn't mind having it available here.

You should definitely submit the Tuor poem, Marbretherese, explaining that's it's inspired by the Legend of Sigurd and Gudrun format. It's fabulous. I keep meaning to send Henry my Treebeard painting (my ONLY Tolkien work so far this year  ) but I never seem to get around to it....

I agree!
Sing and be glad, all ye children of the West,
for your King shall come again,
and he shall dwell among you
all the days of your life.

I do not currently have subscriptions to either Mallorn or Amon Hen, but I'm beginning to suspect that I probably SHOULD. What are the requirements for submitting poetry? Are my two Yule Poetry Contest entries (Eowyn and Luthien as heroines) worth sending in?

Lindariel, Amon Hen and Mallorn are both published by the Tolkien Society and members receive them free of charge. I'm not sure that they're available on subscription, because AH is the bulletin of the TS and Mallorn is its journal.

You can find out more about how to join the TS here:
http://ssl.tolkiensociety.org/main/ts_i ... html#rates
Membership costs about US $40 per year at current exchange rates.

Your poems would definitely be suitable for submission but in each case the editor takes a different approach. The editor of AH prefers to send all poems submitted to him to a poetry expert for their comments & recommendations, none of which you are obliged to take up, before deciding whether to publish. The editor of Mallorn prints the poems which appeal to him, I think.

It may be that Mallorn & AH only accept contributions from TS members but you can find out by emailing amonhen@tolkiensociety.org and/or mallorn@tolkiensociety.org.

Iolanthe, thanks for reminding me about submitting my Tuor poem. I've sent it off, along with a photo of the Lappet painting, although even if they want to use the painting, the photo might not be of suitable quality. Still, nothing ventured!!

Hurrah! I have just applied for membership to the Tolkien Society online. Hopefully, this means they will send me the current issue of Mallorn with the artwork and poetry by our illustrious members. If not, I'll just order it as a back issue. YAY!

Welcome to the Society, Lindariel! I think it's great that you've joined .

They do publish fan fiction - short pieces in Amon Hen and slightly longer ones in Mallorn - in case you are interested  .

Be cautious with the term 'fan fiction' though. On the contents page of Mallorn Henry states that he doesn't accept fan fiction. However he does seem prepared to publish fantasy-related pieces. It might be best to take a look at a couple of editions of Mallorn or drop him a line, before submitting anything. Of course, you could take a chance and send something in anyway - he obviously has guidelines but I'm not sure what they are.

Thanks for letting me know, ladies. When I receive my membership packet -- and hopefully, the latest issues of Amon Hen and Mallorn -- I'll take a look at the guidelines for submitting fiction. As I have maintained before, I don't write "fan fiction," I write "Tolkien-based fiction." Will let you know what I learn!

Oops. I used the term 'fan-fiction' very loosely - I don't really know how it's defined anyway!!!!

This is the trouble - everyone uses the term to mean something slightly different. You and I and Lindariel might define it in three different ways, and the editor of Mallorn in a fourth. :?
