Didn't Gandalf say that to Pippin about Denethor?

He sure did! :D Your turn, RivRes.
Many live who deserve death; some die who deserve life--can you give it to them, Frodo? Do not be so quick to deal out death in judgment. Even the wisest cannot see all ends.

Okey, Dokey :D

Who said ...
But this much I learned, or guessed, and I have kept it ever secret in my heart since: that Isildur took somewhat from the hand of the Unnamed, ere he went away from Gondor, never to be seen among mortal men again.

This was said by Faramir to Frodo during his questioning of the hobbit after he had taken Sam and Frodo in Ithilien.

That is Aragorn, on the walls of Helm's Deep, to the attacking Orcs.
Sing and be glad, all ye children of the West,
for your King shall come again,
and he shall dwell among you
all the days of your life.

A great moment that I would love to have seen on film!

I'll be back tonight with the next quote - - -
Sing and be glad, all ye children of the West,
for your King shall come again,
and he shall dwell among you
all the days of your life.

Who said, "Drat the bird!"? :D

all the days of your life.

Do we need a clue? The bird was a thrush.
Sing and be glad, all ye children of the West,
for your King shall come again,
and he shall dwell among you
all the days of your life.

is this Bilbo, wondering how to break into Smaug's den on the side of the Lonely Mountain? or am I getting my birds mixed up?? :?
"Torment in the dark was the danger that I feared, and it did not hold me back.
But I would not have come, had I known the danger of light and joy."

Right you are, marbretherese! I thought it was kind of ironic that while Bilbo was annoyed by the bird, it was scouting out Smaug to give the secret of his vulnerability to Bard the Bowman.

Your turn . . .
Sing and be glad, all ye children of the West,
for your King shall come again,
and he shall dwell among you
all the days of your life.

OK, who said:

"I had forgotten Bombadil, if indeed this is still the same that walked the woods and hills long ago, and even then was older than the old. That was not then his name."
"Torment in the dark was the danger that I feared, and it did not hold me back.
But I would not have come, had I known the danger of light and joy."
