Re: Tolkien Trivia
This translation matter would have driven Tolkien loco, wouldn't it?
Sing and be glad, all ye children of the West,
for your King shall come again,
and he shall dwell among you
all the days of your life.
for your King shall come again,
and he shall dwell among you
all the days of your life.

Re: Tolkien Trivia
Absolutely, Merry.
Since we're on a new page, allow me to repeat the newest question in our game:
Who said, "I am nearly dead of it."

How wonderful, Michka: the Letters to read on vacation! That's my idea of a little bit of heaven!

all the days of your life.

Re: Tolkien Trivia
That seems a good translation, Michka, although could the last part also be 'to see it'? I have no idea who said this! But I think your secondary clue is that a guard said this line, right? Maybe that will help someone.
Sing and be glad, all ye children of the West,
for your King shall come again,
and he shall dwell among you
all the days of your life.
for your King shall come again,
and he shall dwell among you
all the days of your life.

Re: Tolkien Trivia
Michka, I believe the original English quote you're referring to is, "He has had his share by the looks of it." This is from the chapter "Barrels Out of Bond" in "The Hobbit," and it is said by one of the Elvenking's guards, who arrive to find the Butler and the Captain of the Guard passed out from drinking the King's best wine. They then proceed to push the barrels into the river, and thus Bilbo and the Dwarves escape from the Elvenking's fortress.

True: it's kind of a team sport now!
Sing and be glad, all ye children of the West,
for your King shall come again,

all the days of your life.

all the days of your life.
