Re: The Hobbit - The Movie: Speculation and Discussion

Re: The Hobbit - The Movie: Speculation and Discussion
I am jealous, Michka! I haven't seen it yet. We've had a blizzard last night and today, and one of my old oak trees split open, with the heavy snow and fierce winds. One part fell into the street, another into my neighbor's driveway, and the third will fall into my house if it falls! My neighbors all came out with their chainsaws to clear it out of the way, which was very friendly. I can't get a tree expert to come to take the rest it down until Monday, so I'm a little nervous to leave the house!
So when you see the movie in France, is it translated or in English?

I did see the new game, Michka, and the calendar prize looks lovely! I have to admit, though, that I am not very good at captioning. I'm sure I'll enjoy reading all the entries and voting!

Re: The Hobbit - The Movie: Speculation and Discussion
I finally saw it! I agree with you about 3D, Michka. Our local theater has it available in both formats and they published the schedule wrong in both the newspaper and online, so I saw it in 3D by accident. I thought it was a distraction and it gave me a little bit of a headache as well.
There were a lot of things to love about the movie, particularly the performance of Martin Freeman. I thought he was book Bilbo perfectly, as well as adding a lot of smart details himself. I loved Thorin, too, as well as the dwarves I could focus on--too much of the action and dialogue went by so quickly that I know I missed a lot! Some of it was fairly cartoonish. There was probably some funny throw-away lines that I missed.
As others have said, the best scene was undoubtedly Riddles in the Dark. I was on the edge of my seat and I already knew what happens! I also loved the music. I didn't feel like it was three hours long, either!

Yes, I've been wanting to view LOTR again, too. Maybe the theaters will take the hint!
I received a late Christmas present from one of my colleagues today, which means I now have TWO Hobbit calendars, one with pictures from the movie and one with artwork from Howe and Lee. Should be a good year!

I'm a bit of a knitter, and so I enjoyed this article, which I found through a link at TOR.n:
http://www.knittingdaily.com/blogs/dail ... a=kr130209
I love how the movies have relied on local craftspeople for such excellent work. One of my favorite lines here, though, is in the comments section: somebody posted that Ori's mom must really love him!

Re: The Hobbit - The Movie: Speculation and Discussion
I just read at TOR.n that the third Hobbit movie, which was scheduled to come out during the summer of 2014, will be waiting until December of that year for its release. More waiting!
