May a star shine upon our meeting, welcome Beruthiel and please join us as we continue finding more meaning to this beloved opus. There is another reference to a cat - that of Shelob's nickname, Sauron's Kitten. Being owned by cats since I was 10, I don't understand why they get such bad press. Divas yes, fell beasts - hardly.
Estel, that just happens to be my name and yes it is of Czech origin. :)

A real name, how brave you are! :worship: I grew up with old Scandinavian myths and sagas, that all tell how dangerous it is to use one's true name. Someone will cast a spell on you sooner or later 8-(: , so you'd better use aliases when travelling among strangers. 8) But perhaps you also have a true name that the IRS doesn't know.
Out of doubt, out of dark, to the day's rising
he rode singing in the sun, sword unsheathing.
Hope he rekindled, and in hope ended;
over death, over dread, over doom lifted
out of loss, out of life, unto long glory.

Hello. I am a reader of all forums Tolkien but joiner of just this one! I'm the proud owner of "Bilbo's Last Song" and "The Adventures of Tom Bombadil". When I first discovered the Trilogy as a teenager, I wrote my name in runes on the inside cover of "Return of the King". The movies brought me back to Middle Earth and to Christopher Tolkien's books. A teenager turned me on to the Sil and I was once again floating, swimming, and going under in Tolkien's world, which I do actually believe is real. Last summer while kayaking I felt that I was about to reach the Argonath before being dragged back to non-Middle earth:^(

I also am a great admirer of Viggo Mortensen, for his acting skill, politics, and mad good looks!

So here I am...a nervous newbie

Thanks so much, Philipa and Riv Res, for taking the time to make me feel at home. I know I will love exploring this site.

As I type I am glancing at today's LOTR desk calendar page featuring Viggo dismissing the Captain of the Dead Army outside Minas Tirith...sigh. My husband posted a different Viggo as himself picture on my desktop. I am happily surrounded and engulfed.

Have a great weekend - I will try and log on again -

Hello. I was pleasantly surprised to find this site. I was a frequent reader of and infrequent poster to the Tolkien forums in the late HoT, and enjoyed much of the commentary there. When I chanced upon this site and saw RivRes’ name, it was like spotting a familar face in a crowded room.

I’ve loved Tolkien since I was ten, when I first read the Hobbit in the paperback with the fanciful art that Tolkien thought rather silly. I still have that paperback, along with several shelves’ worth of Tolkien and Tolkien-related prose. I’ll admit it took me several tries to get going with Fellowship; that party bogged me down at ten, and it wasn’t until I was fifteen that I picked up Two Towers and got hooked by its opening line: “Aragorn sped on up the hill.” I ripped through TT, galloped through RotK, zoomed back to Fellowship and read the whole story right through again to “Well, I’m back, he said.” I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve read LotR now. Probably about 20 times in the last 35 years, plus lots of ‘dipping in.’ There’s always something new! And then there’s the Sil and UT and Letters and the HoME, oh my.

Well, excuse my long-windedness. I may not be a frenetic poster, but hope to contribute and learn here when I’m not travelling to Far Harad.

Hello,
I'm Ranger and I'm a Ringer, I guess. In that I love the Rings and all. I hope you all like questions because I want to know all there is to know about Lord of the Rings, the Hobbit, and the Silmarillion. Scary, huh?

Excited to be here,
Ranger

Welcome Ranger from the North.

This is the place to find out all those answers. There is much to read here, pull up a chair and enjoy and I hope to see you participate. Perhaps you can read FoTR with us chapter by chapter. We'd love to have your thoughts friend. :D
