Where was Elendil buried after his death in the Battle of the Last Alliance? Why was he buried there? Why was his grave moved and to where?

Elendil's body was secretly laid in a tomb by Isildur, on Halifirien, later the Hill of Awe, and it was there for over two thousand years until it was removed, in the time of Cirion the Steward, and taken back to the hallows of Minas Tirith.

Tuor said this to his guide Voronwe at thier meeting. Tuor was searching for Gondolin.
I love that whole story in the
Unfinished Tales ...the part when Ulmo speaks to Tuor is reviting.
