We had a lively discussion about how Bombadil was different from the the wizards and how the Professor used both he and the Ents and other earth powers as older and some how beyond the plain of everyday life on Middle Earth. Any takers for a new thread?
Your wish is our command Bruce. Would you like to get things started in our new Tolkien and the Natural Powers of Middle-earth thread in the Simply Tolkien Forum. :D

I will!

Here's a nice little level 1 question:

He was a Marshall of Westfold and fought in both the Battle of the Fords of Isen and the Battle of the Pelennor Fields. Who is he?
Sing and be glad, all ye children of the West,
for your King shall come again,
and he shall dwell among you
all the days of your life.

why none other than the Lord of the Mark, Third Marshall of the Riddermark...Éomer, son of Éomund of Eastfold ( and my next very favorite character of the LoTR!!!! )
O Elbereth! Gilthomiel!
We still remember, we who dwell
In this far land beneath the trees,
Thy starlight on the Western Seas.

And a wonderful character, to be sure, Varda, but was Eomer a Marshall of Westfold?
Sing and be glad, all ye children of the West,
for your King shall come again,
and he shall dwell among you
all the days of your life.

I think we are looking for the marshall of the Westfold men who was Erkenbrand. If I am not mistaken he gave his life defending the Fords of Isen and who's body was defiled by Orcs.

Ah, yes, Bruce, but if he gave his life at the Fords of Isen, then he couldn't also have been at the Battle of the Pelennor, right?
Sing and be glad, all ye children of the West,

Merry

The only other Rohirrim I can think of is Grimbold who fought at both battles and lost his life at the Pelennor Fields.

:) Hope that's your answer

Yes, indeed, Marilyn. Well done!

I have always enjoyed the name of 'Grimbold'. Who would name their baby boy 'Grimbold'? How would you like to have 'Grimbold' be your father? Those Rohirrim where mighty tough men!

Marilyn, your turn!

:D Yes Merry, who would call their son Grimbold, it makes you wonder what his father was called.

Anyway here's a simple Level 1 question:

How many years passed between the first and second meeting of Aragorn and Arwen?
