Beregond is his name. He abandoned his post at the Citadel, and helped to prevent Denethor from burning Faramir alive.

Absolutely correct, Airwin. He introduces himself to Pippin as "Beregond son of Baranor" and that is the only mention we get of Baranor in the entire book.

Sorry for the wait everyone! I've come up with this level 1.5 (?) question:

At Elessar's wedding, besides giving his daughter away, Elrond also gives another item. What is it, where did it come from originally, and who brought it to Middle-Earth?

As I recall this item is the Septre of Annumins, the silver rod of the Lords of Andunie, of Numenor. Elendil escaped the downfall of Numenor and established the Kingdom of Anor. This septre was passed to the Chieftains of the Dunedain. As we know the Northern Kingdom fell to infighting and was finished off by the Witch King of Agmar.
Elrond was Aragorn's foster father and was entrusted with this item and when he wed Arwin he presented this heirloom to the King.

Let's get our books out and do a bit of research. The significance of Anduril and Narsil figures very much to the history of the line of Numenorians. On the sword were several illustrations and why are they significant to the history of Numenor and where in its history were they representing?

Hint: Lines of kings and defeats of Sauron.

This maybe only part of the answer your looking for Bruce........

Anduril had an inscription along the length of the blade and its sheath....

I am Anduril who was Narsil the sword of Elendil. Let the thralls of Mordor flee me

Narsil's inscription read.... Narsil is my name, a mighty sword; Telchar made me in Nogrod

Symbols of the sun and a cresent moon with seven stars between were engraved on Anduril with (the stars to represent Elendil and the sun and moon to represent, not quite sure on this..... Arnor and Gondor or Isildur and Anarion)

Both swords were essential to the defeats of Sauron in the Second Age and the Third age.

Very close, yes all that is true. A common motif is seen in all ages and in each time this figures in at key moments.

Hint: What are the qualities of light and how are they realted?

The motif of light that links all three ages is from Telperion and Laurelin, from who's flowers came the moon and the sun. Melkor's and Sauron's defeat by the Valinor is reminded in Valacirca, the seven stars seen both on the swords and on the gate of Moria. From Telperion came Gathalon and Nimloth that would be the unbroken line of trees from the Valinor to Numenor and to Gondor.
Before the fall of Numenor, Ar-Pharazon defeated Sauron and placed a beacon in Umbar with a crystal that took both the light of the moon and the sun and shone like a star. Of course in the second age Sauron threw down this memorial to his defeat.
Elindil's line would keep the shards of Narsil that shone with both silver of the moon and of gold as the sun as did Anduril. Gandalf led Aragorn to find the scion of the Eldest Trees thus uniting this overall arching motif.
