You'll certainly enjoy it. It's a tall tale and full of bathos. It's not often I laugh aloud while reading something. I'm now reading Leaf by Niggle, which is in the same volume and is a very different thing altogether.
Now let the song begin! Let us sing together
Of sun, stars, moon and mist, rain and cloudy weather...

Leaf by Niggle is different, but I like it. Most people read it as autobiographical.
Sing and be glad, all ye children of the West,
for your King shall come again,
and he shall dwell among you
all the days of your life.

Hey, all! It's a great day at Middle-earth Journeys! There's a nice question in the trivia thread, waiting for a beginner, maybe, to answer. There is some wonderful poetry about Gandalf in the members' art thread, and a very informative Great Years Calendar post about the history of the White Tree.

Well done, everyone!
Sing and be glad, all ye children of the West,
for your King shall come again,
and he shall dwell among you
all the days of your life.

September at Marquette! This looks good--

I read a paper by Segura a few years ago, and it was insightful and very readable. Praise be to Marquette for their own-going Tolkien studies!
Sing and be glad, all ye children of the West,

and he shall dwell among you
all the days of your life.

Tonight I shall raise my glass to Bilbo and Frodo and drink to their long life (right now it's too early), but for now I'll just say Happy Birthday! :D

I raise my glass to Frodo, Bilbo, and their creator--but not to fall: I'm in mourning for summer and in dread of winter.. Maybe if I listen to my LOTR audio books. . . . :(
Many live who deserve death; some die who deserve life--can you give it to them, Frodo? Do not be so quick to deal out death in judgment. Even the wisest cannot see all ends.

Happy Birthday Bilbo and Frodo!

It’s a dangerous business, Frodo, going out of your door…You step into the Road, and if you don’t keep your feet, there is no knowing where you might be swept off to.

Happy Birthday MEJ and thank you Riv, and everyone else involved in MEJ's creation and moderation!!

Thanks to all who have made Middle-earth Journeys such a great place to visit. We are a little quieter than we had envisioned, maybe, but I think we make up for it in depth. There have been a lot of really fine contributions here this year. I hope I'm not being immodest when I say that some of what we have done is better than some of what was presented at the Oxford conference! Really! Well done, everyone.

I think I agree, especially when I see what you all come up with for the wonderful Great Years Calendar!
