This is lovely Riv! I can just hear the ocean... I love the colors of the waves and foam!

Thanks Airwin. I am not happy with the ship though. Doesn't look Elvish to me. Needs some work. :D

Terrific choice of poetry, RR, and this illustration is different from the rest in that it is not botanical. But it's a great concept--I like the emphasis on the west in the compass. I suppose I think of elvish ships as light in color and 'swan-ish', like our logo!
Sing and be glad, all ye children of the West,
for your King shall come again,
and he shall dwell among you
all the days of your life.

The colours are lovely, Riv, and you've captured the atmosphere of the sea wonderully. Personally I like the ship, but if you want it to look more Elvish you could make it white and gold? that would fit with your colour scheme . . .
"Torment in the dark was the danger that I feared, and it did not hold me back.
But I would not have come, had I known the danger of light and joy."

Lovely colours - I like the 'wet on wet' in the sea, blending all the shades.

I see what you mean about the ship, the back gives it a slight Spanish galleon look, and they were very chunky and heavy in the water. But drawing a new kind of ship that works is far from easy, it took the LOTR film artists a long time to get it right.

The gray is better--an elvish color, the color of twilight!

and he shall dwell among you
all the days of your life.

yes, and I like the more green effect of the waves at the bottom border, too . . . and the way the star has become more delicate!!

Riv, such lovely paintings for me to enjoy now that I'm back from a week away at a conference! I also like the second attempt better, with the gray ship and more green in the color of the ocean waves. Am I correct that you are depicting the back of the ship as it sails away into the West? Very evocative!

I like the second attept as well but I wonder (ok slap me for being a pain) should the sails not be white? I'm not sure if the color scheme will wash out but it is just a thought.

They should at least probably be lighter.
