Keep guessing!

A man? Since it does sound a bit hobbitish, who also speaks that way? Say...maybe Butterbur?

We have a winner! He said this line after Gandalf and the hobbits came back to the Prancing Pony and told him all the good news about the real king having been returned to the throne. It's not surprising, I guess, that in Bree, men and hobbits have some of the same speech patterns.

Your turn, RR!

I've forgotten his name....it is the Elf who meets Aragorn and the hobbits to take them into Rivendell?

The elf who Sam and Frodo meet right after leaving the Shire. The band of Elves where leaving Middle-earth I believe. Name? Sorry I've been in the sun all day.

OK...you have the right Elf. His name is Gildor Inglorion and he indeed said those words to Frodo at Woody End. :D

You're next Philipa.
