"Are there no leeches among you?"

Level 1
Sing and be glad, all ye children of the West,
for your King shall come again,
and he shall dwell among you
all the days of your life.

(guessing) Prince Imrahil of Dol Amroth - when he pointed out that Eowyn was not actually dead, although badly hurt at the Battle of the Pelennor Fields?
"Torment in the dark was the danger that I feared, and it did not hold me back.
But I would not have come, had I known the danger of light and joy."

Good guess! Your turn---
Sing and be glad, all ye children of the West,
for your King shall come again,
and he shall dwell among you
all the days of your life.

The whole sequence involving Eowyn at the Pelennor is one of my favourite parts of LOTR :D

I would say this is a Level 2 or possibly 2.5:
. . . we are but mortal Men, and unlike the Eldar. They may endure for long years awaiting battle with their enemies in some far distant day; but for us the time is short, and our hope and strength soon wither.
"Torment in the dark was the danger that I feared, and it did not hold me back.
But I would not have come, had I known the danger of light and joy."

Sing and be glad, all ye children of the West,

This character's story appears in The Book of Lost Tales AND The Silmarillion , I believe - but the quote itself is taken from a much more recent version of the tale.
"Torment in the dark was the danger that I feared, and it did not hold me back.
But I would not have come, had I known the danger of light and joy."

I'll go farther on the limb: is it Turin?
Sing and be glad, all ye children of the West,
for your King shall come again,
and he shall dwell among you
all the days of your life.

It's not Turin, Merry, but you & Gil are right - the quote is from CoH - and you are very close to the right answer . . .!
"Torment in the dark was the danger that I feared, and it did not hold me back.
But I would not have come, had I known the danger of light and joy."

No, not Beleg :D Closer to Turin!
"Torment in the dark was the danger that I feared, and it did not hold me back.
But I would not have come, had I known the danger of light and joy."
