That's just WONDERFUL :D :clapping: ! I love the rhyming scheme you've used with his name at the end of each stanza. It's a 'proper' ballad.

I love it and it sums up Sam's journey so well. I think Tolkien would have enjoyed it too if he'd spotted it in the Red Book  .

A very Merry Christmas from Merry, too! One of my goals in the next week is to try my hand at some light Tolkien verse again--there! I've said it outloud so now I have to do it!
Sing and be glad, all ye children of the West,
for your King shall come again,
and he shall dwell among you
all the days of your life.

It seems that many of us intend creative Tolkien ventures in 2008.

Brilliant!! :D

About one of my favorite storylines...the Legolas/Gimli friendship and Legolas' loyalty and devotion to his friends. :)

Legolas remained
tho' the gulls sang

his duty not done
his friends not gone

with Gimli he traveled
until Elessar's time unraveled

And then the friends
sailed to the Silvery ends

aww, thanks! That is probably my favorite storyline in the books - the legolas/gimli friendship and Legolas' devotion - I wish it had been in the movies more..but, we can't have everything! :)

Oh, and just a quick note that there is some excellent work on this forum! I'm really enjoying looking back over all of the art and poetry by the members here! Good job everyone! :D

I love your poem, Elentarivarda! :clapping: :clapping: :clapping: for me too the Legolas/Gimli friendship is one of the joys of LOTR.

It's so nice to have another poem :D . I love

his duty not done
his friends not gone

All that holds Legolas in Middle-earth despite the calling of the sea.

Thanks everyone! :D

I remember thinking, when I read the books, that Legolas is one of the best friends a person could have! :) He's loyal, brave, wise, and willing to do whatever he can to ensure his friend's survival. :D I wish, wish, wish they had shown more of this side of Legolas in the films. It's there, but it is not as apparent as it is in the books. I did feel totally cheated at the end of the ROTK movie...everyone else got an ending! Why not Legolas and Gimli? :( But, we can't have everything! :D

They did film some scenes in the Glittering Caves but realised there were too many endings.

I feel the same about Legolas and Gimli's friendship in the book. It's a delight watching it grow.

I started Letters from Father Christmas this afternoon (birthday present from my cousin) and they are absolutely charming. I hadn't realised that the Tolkien children wrote to FC with their requests, then FC wrote back, then they wrote again and then they got their 'special' letter on Christmas Eve!!

How Tolkien managed to find time to think up the FC stories, do all those illustrations - some are proper watercolours - write the letters and design everything right down to the stamp on the envelope, hold down a full-time job, attend Church every day, go to Inklings sessions and do so much creative writing - is beyond me. But I'm so glad he did!!
