With a nice cuppa Sleepy Time tea--

To the Professor! May you have joy in the knowledge of how you changed the world for the better!
Sing and be glad, all ye children of the West,
for your King shall come again,
and he shall dwell among you
all the days of your life.

I went to a merry meeting yesterday in Antwerp where we did the birthday toast and ate a 9 course hobbit meal to celebrate the professor! I haven't had such a nice feast for a long time! To the professor!!!

How wonderful, Beren! We have some 'foodies' here, though, so you can't mention a nine-course meal without describing what the courses were to satisfy our curiosity (if not our appetites!).
Sing and be glad, all ye children of the West,
for your King shall come again,
and he shall dwell among you
all the days of your life.

that is a bit difficult to describe... they were all very original like a woodenstick with a shrimp with around some leaves and then fried; a meat ball with pinetree pits and a mintsause,...

Sounds good Beren! Were there any mushrooms and fried taters?

I can't imagine a better way to celebrate the Professor's birthday. Next year I'm definitely going to organise a party and do it properly :D .

I did that a few years ago--lots of mushrooms and different kinds of ale. Fun!

It's time once again to toast the Professor on his birthday (at this time of the morning it's a glass of water):

The Professor!!!
"Torment in the dark was the danger that I feared, and it did not hold me back.
But I would not have come, had I known the danger of light and joy."

I just read that the local Tolkien Society in Denver is meeting tonight to sing Happy Birthday in elvish! RR, do you remember that in Milwaukee at the final banquet? (although the singers were pretty sloshed, so much so that I couldn't pick out much elvish!)

and he shall dwell among you
all the days of your life.

I thought trees would be appropriate and the font is, of course called 'Hobbit' :D .

A toast to the Professor (in tea for me  ),
Now let the song begin! Let us sing together
Of sun, stars, moon and mist, rain and cloudy weather...
