I don't Merry. The referance only said it was from The Lost Tales. I did a double take as I thought the man said it himself.

Now I just have to know what character said it. This can be our New Years task - find the quote! It could drive us mad....
Now let the song begin! Let us sing together
Of sun, stars, moon and mist, rain and cloudy weather...

Oh, nice picture!
Sing and be glad, all ye children of the West,
for your King shall come again,
and he shall dwell among you
all the days of your life.

Yes nice picture indeed. You know something funny, I always wondered why fictitious woodland folk wore such impractical shoes for the forest. Don't you think there would be little sticks and such that would push through those thin soles.?  I know, I'm weird like that. :P

Maybe the Elven gardeners picked up all the sticks and stones.

They're magic shoes with Mithril soles and breathable webbing woven by Galadriel :P .

Don't forget how lightly the elves walk. Remember that Legolas could walk on top of the snow, while the rest of the Fellowship were all struggling through it. That may also explain their choice of footwear.

There is an excellent TV series on BBC4 Thursday nights called Worlds of Fantasy - this week's programme featured Tolkien. You can access it here:

www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/page/item/b00936hj.shtml

Although there wasn't a great deal in it which Tolkien enthusiasts didn't already know, there was some footage of Tolkien and some photos which I hadn't seen before. Tom Shippey was interviewed, too!
"Torment in the dark was the danger that I feared, and it did not hold me back.
But I would not have come, had I known the danger of light and joy."

A similar (maybe the same?) program ran on Ovation TV. I caught about 30 minutes of it. Very interesting. It was especially nice to see the television interviews with the Professor, and to hear Thomas Shippey again.

...A rare collection of books and artefacts will be open to the public for the first time after a £5million donation was made to the famous Bodleian Library at Oxford University.

Original manuscripts from Tolkien's Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit and Mary Shelley's Frankenstein will be among a number of national treasures put on display in a new exhibition hall...
