It’s a dangerous business, Frodo, going out of your door…You step into the Road, and if you don’t keep your feet, there is no knowing where you might be swept off to.

Pen and ink with lots of obsessive little lines
Personally I didn't have any perceived idea of what Aragorn looked like before the movies because I hadn't read the books yet. I don't think I am any less a Tolkien fan because of it either.
Now I'm interested to know if you've developed your own different looking post-film Aragorn?
Now let the song begin! Let us sing together
Of sun, stars, moon and mist, rain and cloudy weather...

Ah, yes I think I have. I'd say it would be a more rugged, worn face on the man. More scowly too. VM did make a 'pretty' Aragorn.
Sorry to be late in your welcome but its nice to read your posts about Aragorn. I too read Tolkien young and developed my own image of the character I felt so drawn too
I've been directed to this forum by some of your more senior members, and it looks lovely. My name is Elegaer, I guess I'm a Tolkien artist (www.marquista.com) and a general all-round illustrator trying to make her way in the horribly complicated world of professional art-ism.
I love elves. I love Fëanor. Actually, I don't just love Fëanor, it goes beyond that LOL. I used to be Books Admin at www.councilofelrond.com where I wrote vast screeds about Fëanor, the Two Trees and Anglo-Saxon cultures.
Hallo, Elegaer! it's great to see you here at last - I had the impression when we met that you'd been meaning to visit us for some time. As you can see, artists are always welcome. And artists who can write screeds about Fëanor, or anything else Tolkien-related, are particularly welcome!! Have you had a chance to look at the Oxonmoot thread yet?
"Torment in the dark was the danger that I feared, and it did not hold me back.
But I would not have come, had I known the danger of light and joy."
Welcome Elegaer! I look forward to visiting your website and enjoying the art. We'd be THRILLED to read your Feanor screeds and any other Tolkine-related ruminations you'd care to share!

“Therefore I say: Eä! Let these things Be! And I will send forth into the Void the Flame Imperishable, and it shall be at the heart of the World, and the World shall Be.”
Welcome from me, too, Elegaer. You can see that we've made liberal use of your lovely artwork when we first designed this website, so it is an honor to have you here!
Sing and be glad, all ye children of the West,
for your King shall come again,
and he shall dwell among you
all the days of your life.
I'm cross_harps from Viggo Works and will look forward to participating on this forum as well. I've been a huge Tolkien fan for many, many years. I've read the Hobbit at least 20 times and have read the trilogy 14 times, the last time being after a foot surgery when I couldn't do much of anything except reading!!
I started reading Tolkien when I was in middle school, but I've never considered myself to be a real student of Tolkien. There is a group here in Houston called the Inklings (like Tolkien and Lewis' literary group) that is a Tolkien study/discussion group. They meet once a month, and I'd love to attend their meetings more often than I have. If only real life would quit getting in the way!
I am a professional harpist and am also an editor, but I've been out of work for 8 months, so life is really challenging right now.
Current projects in my life include writing a book about living with fibromyalgia, arranging folk tunes for 26-string harp for publication. I have found so many great tunes from Denmark, I might do a whole book of Danish folk tunes!
Our little family consists of my Dad, age 96, my daughter (almost 24), myself, and three dogs. I also have a flock of pigeons that I feed and who hang out in my yard! We will probably get a cat for my Dad for Christmas, so we might add one more critter to the herd!
Anyway, that's me. I started reading the 70th anniversary edition of the Hobbit last night and was thinking of some really good trivia questions in my head. I caught myself wishin we had a Tolkien trivia game at VW, and then I remembered this forum. So I've finally joined over here!
Alas, our trivia games seem to have ground to a halt! (I hope it's not my fault!) Thanks for reminding us and for introducing yourself, cross harps. Most of us are finding we didn't know The Hobbit as well as we might have thought, so we need your expertise!
Sing and be glad, all ye children of the West,
for your King shall come again,
and he shall dwell among you
all the days of your life.
