It’s a dangerous business, Frodo, going out of your door…You step into the Road, and if you don’t keep your feet, there is no knowing where you might be swept off to.
I wish I could find a larger version, it looks terrific. If I do I'll replace it. And, of course, there's this one by the Brothers Hildebrandt which I love:
Many of the dwarves in the Hildebrandt are white-haired. I know that Tolkien told us that some of the dwarves are older than others, but I guess I didn't imagine them as a bunch of old guys! No wonder they needed a burglar. And I still think GdT are going to have to make the dwarves a lot cuter or this movie isn't going to fly.
Sing and be glad, all ye children of the West,
for your King shall come again,
and he shall dwell among you
all the days of your life.
...They were in a long low room, with the light of lamps swinging from the beams of the roof; and on the table of dark polished wood stood many candles, tall and yellow, burning brightly.
...About her feet in wide vessels of green and brown earthenware, white water-lillies were floating...
...There was a fire in the wide hearth before them, and it was burning with a sweet smell, as if it were built of apple-wood.
My small scanner doesn't get the whole piece so you have two images to catch both the lamps on the beams, and the vessels of lillies.

Ah yes, my website I started building it just after Christmas and it went "live" a week or two ago - that's when I got Iolanthe to put the link onto my gallery page here at MEJ! The idea is to showcase my paintings & photos - I've even started a blog, although I haven't had much time to post on it recently . . . I probably should have mentioned it! I'd welcome any suggestions or comments any of you may have!
"Torment in the dark was the danger that I feared, and it did not hold me back.
But I would not have come, had I known the danger of light and joy."
I haven't forgotten those dwarves making music in The Hobbit. The composition isn't ideal because it started out as just Bofur, then grew into the spaces that were left :
Bofur, Balin and Bilbo at Bag End
I love the way the end of the Viol is growing out of Bofur's head - that wouldn't happen in a properly planned painting!
Now let the song begin! Let us sing together
Of sun, stars, moon and mist, rain and cloudy weather...
