These have been fantastic. I think the real benefit for you three have been the support and teachings from the other artists involved. To feel like part of that genre's community gives you confidence too. :D

The ADC book link is a treasure. So much to oogle at there.

It is very encouraging to talk to other artists. Not only to hear how they do things, but to know they're solving the same dilemmas and going through the same processes to reach a final work.

Wonderful reports once again, Iolanthe and marbretherese! :clapping: :worship: It's unlikely I'll ever be able to attend an event like this one, but reading your reports make up for it! :D Thanks so much for making me feel like I was there! :flower:

He drew the peacock in your copy! How wonderful :D . What a sweetheart Jef is. I can see why his peacock painting is a favourite - somehow I overlooked it at the exhibition but now I see it......

There were just so mamy paintings there to take in!

I just caught up with this thread and I am  with envy that all of this is available to you Brits while some of us live in the Tolkien wastelands (the Plains of Gorgoroth?) of Colorado.

Thank you SO MUCH for your images and summaries. They are like food to a starving person. :D

If only I had a spare £800 ... Peacocks have always been my secret love.

And - I'm hiding it in here cos I can sense the horror - what would you say if I made Numenor the unofficial theme for the next Oxonmoot?

I'd say I've got nothing at all to exhibit  . Now - do you mean just Numenor itself or would that stretch to the Numenoreans in Middle-earth and all their works (:-o< .

Would you buy the story that all the lost Entwives were missing because they went to Numenor?

I'd happily go for whatever stretch people wanted!

The reason I thought of Numenor is that a) it's not represented greatly in art (blame Jef for painting it and inspiring me), and b) I don't think any of the Oxonmoot art people had painted it. I was trying to think of something that would prove interesting and new to most people.

It is, however, utterly boring!!

edit: and I don't want something that most people would just groan about and discard the idea without making new pretties!

I think the danger is people not exhibiting at all because they don't have time to create something new on something so obscure (i.e. they are likely to have nothing already that fits).

The crunch would be whether they could still exhibit other stuff and also, if they are able, offer something on that theme for a 'Numenor' corner (rather than it being the whole exhibit).

Maybe the theme needs to be less obscure this year and, with plenty of notice, aim for something more challenging next year when everyone has more time to work on it? I agree it's something that's hardly been visualised. But then there's not much written stuff on Numenor and what there is is outside a lot of people's reading :-k. I love a challenge and would probably come up with something... but then I have a lot of time.

Plus I promised Fangorn an Entwife  .

Oh yes, it would be just a special corner or something. People could show whatever they wanted as well. I want it to be "Art Show plus special little competition" thing. I'll even see if I can rustle up a prize or two if people are interested.

Hmmm. "Trees" would be a good one. I bet people would have stuff to submit anyway - Two Trees, Ents, White Tree etc, though I would somehow try and say that new works are preferred.

Phew! Yes - a special corner would work well. That would add to the whole thing, not create panic  .

Marbretherese has a really good tree....
