I believe we also had a discussion at WRoR that the climate of Gondor and the Anduin delta region resembles that of Tuscany. The Pelennor was written to be very fertile. Sounds like great wine country to me.

I want to know what Bruce Rerek is bringing! :D

By the way, I remember reading somewhere that the meal that the hobbits had at the Prancing Pony (hot soup, cold meats, bread and butter, cheese, blackberry tart) contained Tolkien's favorite foods. And he thought that refrigeration ruined the taste of food. Remember the contents of Bilbo's larder that were emptied out by the ravenous dwarves? I've always wanted to taste a seed cake.

I shall bring my favourite meal, fish and chips, served by S. Gamgee! Much better than uncooked rabbit :D .

Well, now let me see. What shall I bring to the party?

No cram that is for sure. We'll keep the lembas biscuits for our journeys, shall we?

Some fruit from the Gaffer's garden would be nice. And I'll get some bottles of ale from The Green Dragon.

I suppose we had better be PC and have a non pipe weed smoking area? Who is bringing a musical instrument? See you there!

If there's going to be music, I volunteer to organise some hobbit-dancing. And I'll bring some toast with butter and honey (in fact, I might go and have some right now . . .)

Of course I'll be there. A true hobbit at heart, I'll never pass up the opportunity for free food and presents! I'll bring stuffed mushrooms!
They are covered Riv. :D

We need tables, chairs, napkins, plates and silverware. So much to do...so much to do.

PO-TA-TOES!
Mash 'em, bake 'em, stick them in a stew. Nice lovely taters.

Since the weather is still quite warm I will prepare a meal of special magnificence that is centered around the outdoor grill. To celebrate not only Bilbo's and Frodo's birthday, but a new member to our family - my great nephew's first birthday. Kyle William Sangram Rose has completed with all due satisfaction his first strip around the sun.
Lets us begin with a puree of white beans, chick peas, saffron, white truffle oil served on toasted Tuscan bread infused with olive oil and rosemary.
Chilled lemon and oyster mushroom soup with a dallop of sour cream.
Wine: Johansburg Reisling
Grilled halibut with portobello mushrooms and yellow squash with Thai green curry.
Wine: Valley of the Moon, Sangeovaise
Salad of baby spinach with hearts of romaine, roasted onions, braised shittake mushrooms, and grated Asiago cheese, hazelnut oil vineagrette.
Chilled raspberry sherbet and apple tartan.

As soon as we can. I would love to have a meal based discussion group, if geography and time could spare. Perhaps in time we could. Until then I could post recipes as I did on Writers of Rohan.

I am hoping that Bruce is talking about meals/recipes/discussions inspired by Middle-earth. :D
