I say no! I believe the talent here is unique and inspiring as well. You may be amateurs at selling/promoting but by no means less talented.

So am I - and thanks, Philipa, for your kind words. If it wasn't for the art thread here on MEJ and the encouragement it brings with it (and the inspiration of Tolkien, of course!!) I wouldn't be painting half as much as I do now - if at all - and I would never have found out about all these wonderful Tolkien artists!

I love Anke's works (I have an original on my wall, bought at Oxonmoot last year). Whilst at Moreton recently, I was particularly happy to see (and buy!) a copy of Anke's latest(?) work, 'Beowulf and the Dragon' . it is a simply beautiful production; Walking tree Press are to be congratulated for taking on this project; it is a stunning book. Anke's talents in art, and book design, shine out. Her half-view of Beowulf has such power - I'd love to see the originals some day.

I was hoping to ask Anke to sign my copy at Lady Margaret Hall next month; but I don't know whether she's attending Oxonmoot this year? I do hope so!

I believe she is attending, Geordie. We stopped by Moreton on the way back from the Festival in the Shire and I didn't spot Anke's 'Beowulf and the Dragon'. Becky Hitchin mentioned it to me but we were part way through such a long journey from Wales (with a fair way still to go) that I forgot to then go and look for it. I've been annoyed with myself ever since and am hoping there will be copies at Oxonmoot.

I'm sure there will be! Geordie, I too love Anke's work, Jonick & I have a print of "and so they stood on the walls" above our bed (a gift from Iolanthe). You mention a pen and ink sketch on the "intro" thread - is it one of the ones in black, white and shades of red, or am I thinking of something else?

Yes, it's a picture of Thorin looking at Thror's map. We're sort of peering over his shoulder. The palette is very much like that used in Anke's 'Beowulf' book, only the red is much more vibrant in an original drawing such as this, which is to be expected, I suppose.
