I've never seen his Smith of Wooton Major before but I've looked it up and it's rather nice. Don't know how I missed it! Interesting as we are discussing that work at the moment!

I think Garland's vision is challenging too - very different. I think you are right about his use of colour, I love it too and I do like the painting of Ulmo. It's a truly fantastical painting and worthy of a great Valar! The coral and shell headress is great, I love the wonderful rays of light coming through the clouds and I especially love the beautifully painted wave at the bottom of the picture - it's equisite. It's easy to miss that with such a big figure dominating the scene. The only thing that lets it down is the figure of Tuor at the bottom which is, quite frankly, bad!
