It's a shame so few get to see them - though there are a few more now you have his calendar on your site! He really should exhibit them or submit them to
Rolozo Tolkien so a lot more people can appreciate and enjoy them. The standard is so much higher than a lot of the stuf that's there.
Come to think of it why haven't I put my stuff there

Thanks CA

Does anyone have this year's Tolkien Calendar illustrated by Alan Lee? This month's pic shows Mount Doom errupting with tiny figures of Frodo and Sam running in the bottom left hand side.
I'm reading David Day's
Tolkien's Ring at the moment and although I've been looking at both the book and calendar pic all month I've only just spotted that that Jacket illustration is the same picture as this month's calendar image. Except that instead of Frodo and Sam there is a man sitting on a horse looking at the erruption

.
It's the older version so Lee must have scrubbed out the horse and rider at some point and put the two hobbits in! So it isn't Mount Doom at all.....

Did a mountain erupt sometime in Rohan?

I think it's painting illustrating one of the other legends Day talks about in his book. He covers Norse, Germanic, Welsh and other mythologies so it could show almost anything! Lee has illustrated many of those myths over the years. The cover picture has no caption, alas. If I find a story of a horseman and a volcano we'll know!

NEW Tolkien Calendar

by Parmastahir
I have collected a LOT of Tolkien calendars. Now a first for me. I have been working with Ted Nasmith and Jef Murray to create a calendar for Heren Istarion (The Northeast Tolkien Society). Anthony and Jessie, the cochairs of NETS, are having difficulty keeping the Society solvent (without dipping further into their own pockets!) As they have done so much for Tolkien fans (including organizing the '08 MythCon in Connecticut next year) and as I have been wanting to create a calendar, I have taken the responsibility to create this one. All proceeds will benefit HI. Ted and Jef have contributed some amazing illustrations (some of them previously unpublished!) I am working with my daughter (a graphic designer) to lay out the calendar. It will be in the Shire Reckoning format with Gregorian dates, moon phases, and important dates in Middle-earth added. You can check out its cover by Jef (and support HI should you order one) at:

Thanks!

p.s. - I am hoping that a plug for this calendar does not offend anyone or run afoul of any forum rules. It is for a good and completely non-commercial cause. (I will certainly abide by any decisions that a moderator may make!)

You bet we want to see, Cheyenne Angel! thanks so much for posting these links. It's always interesting to see artist's works in situ. I've come to appreciate John Howe more and more - and his website has to be one of the best I've ever seen!

Not at all - what a great idea to support them! Unseen Ted Nasmith, eh? That should be desirable and collectable in anyone's book! Good luck putting it all together

Great vids CA! The more I see the more I wish I'd been there. The exhibition looks wonderful and what a great setting.
I've very puzzled by the picture of the train going through the waves in the first video....
CotM and Update

I have posted the Calendar of the Month for December. It is the third in a series titled "Bilbo Baggins and the Fourteen" by Colin Williams.
www.angelfire.com/tn3/tolkiencalendars
Also, please consider supporting Heren Istarion by purchasing one of their 2008 calendars. It will contain illustrations by Ted Nasmith and Jef Murray and be in the Shire Reckoning format. You can check it out here:
www.herenistarion.org
For those that have ordered, we have still to receive the CD with Ted Nasmith's illustrations. It was mailed eight days ago. Even by airmail, I expect it to take 10 day to 2 weeks. Hopefully, it will arrive early next week and we will be shipping the calendar soon after.
Happy December to all!

Wow - January (Smaug), February with the smoke and May (the Hobbits behind the walled entrance) are such strong designs. Excellent stuff, thanks Parmastahir

HI Calendar Update

First of all, thank you both for your visits and comments. At the risk of overdoing it, I may make Colin Williams' 2008 calendar the CotM for January. I love all of his for his artwork and the really high quality (all hand-made) of them. But his 2008 focusses more on the landscapes than the figures and really appeals to me.
Next, my daughter received the CD/illustrations from Ted Nasmith. I spoke with her yesterday and I may see a proof of the Heren Istarion calendar as early as today! I am REALLY excited about this! (Can you tell?!?) Will keep you posted on developments.

HI Calendar

I picked up 60 copies of the Heren Istarion from my daughter (who designed and printed them) on Friday and mailed out 58 out them on Monday. Doing the math, that means that only 2 of them are still available. The response to this calendar is most appreciated by the HI folks. Thanks to anyone who purchased one for their support of HI.
Happy Holidays to all!
