Hello fellow Tolkien geeks!
Judging from the names I see here, I don't really have to introduce myself.
Yes, I am "that evil boy who somehow managed to annoy several people over at V-W already because he thinks that Aragorn does not look like Viggo".
Yes, that means old fan. Since I was 12. (means it's been half my life now
) Old Aragorn fan, to be exact. Long before there was a movie (oh well, there was that cartoon version, but does that count?
). I like the movies altogether, and some of the changes make perfect sense to me, but the movies just aren't canon. (And Aragorn was there long before anybody ever heard about Viggo. Sorry, folks.
) So I guess I'll feel right at hoem here.
I used to play the collectible card game Middle-earth, both Wizards/Dragons etc and Lidless Eye series, but my hopes aren't exactly high to find others, there are very few sadly...

Welcome Kirill! if it's any consolation my own "inner Aragorn" is somewhat different to V-M too, much as I admire him as an actor/artist etc. But I don't think I would have mentioned that over at Viggo-Works - very brave of you!!
Love the sig btw.

We tried not to eat him
. But - seriously - my own inner Aragorn isn't Viggo either. When I read the books now the Aragorn I saw in my mind at my first reading is still there intact. And yet I think Viggo was wonderful! But nothing is a substitute for our own imagination, is it?
Here's my Aragorn, looking a bit worn....

Welcome Kirill! So glad you were enticed to join us here at Middle-earth Journeys. My original image of Aragorn also did not look like Viggo. Daniel Day-Lewis is much closer in appearance, but still not quite there. Nonetheless, I'm with Iolanthe -- Viggo brought all of Aragorn's other qualities to such vivid life (except for the self-doubt business that PJ glommed onto him to make him a more "modern" hero) that he certainly captured my attention!
So glad to have you here! Looking forward to your thoughts and comments -- and ART (says Lindariel the singer and writer who can only draw stick figures and greatly admires folks who can render the ideas and images in their imaginations visually)!

I'm glad to see you here, Kirill! I mostly lurk at VW, just to see what my moderator friends there are doing, but I'm with you about canon: you will notice that I'm the only one who thanked you for your correction about Ecthelion.
Sing and be glad, all ye children of the West,
for your King shall come again,
and he shall dwell among you
all the days of your life.
for your King shall come again,
and he shall dwell among you
all the days of your life.

Hi everybody (from the siggy as well
)!
Yes, they haven't eaten me yet, but I'm sure they're already stacking up the mustard and ketchup bottles already for The Day.
But I'll keep pointing it out, and die a martyr for the one and only Aragorn.
Eh, but maybe they'll eat me for being interested in movie details that don't include Viggo first. Or for discussing the subtleties of the brothel scene from Eastern Promises (ye gods, cover your eyes, the kid wrote "brothel"!
). Or for the audacity that is my user name.
But yes, since I've loved Tolkien's books, and since they've meant escape and consolation to me throughout my childhood since I was 12 (as in, from then on - awkwardly worded...
), I'd like to die for Aragorn please.
Nice drawing, Iolanthe. Or is it actually drawn? How did you do it?
I don't know any actor who looks like the one Aragorn in my head, but I've got a firm picture in my mind. I could draw him... if I were that good at drawing exact portraits.
Yes Merry, I remember that, and I remember that I thought "Yippeeeee, another one who thinks spelling "supporting characters'" names correctly matters".
And yes, Lindariel, REAL Aragorn is arrogant at times. And sarcastic, too. And can have a wicked tongue (... get out of the gutter, please...
). But he's cool that way.

Hi Kirill
Personally I didn't have any perceived idea of what Aragorn looked like before the movies because I hadn't read the books yet. I don't think I am any less a Tolkien fan because of it either.
I hope you have fun here and as you can probably already tell 98% of the time we only discuss the literary virtues of Arda. Oh, but we do have one thread for speculation of the up and coming Hobbit and second film.
See you around.
