It's that time of year again! Let's remember that January 3 is the Professor's birthday, and Tolkien fans around the world take the time to toast him appropriately. To the Professor!

We always try to have a mushroom-y delicacy with our ale.

This year, I'd like to toast The Professor with Eru's words, which brought Arda into Being (they also happen to be my signature line!):

It's 2010 and a good time to remind ourselves that tomorrow, January 3, is our beloved Professor's birthday! The protocol set by the Tolkien Society is that at 9:00 PM local time, we are to stand, raise a glass of our favorite beverage and say "The Professor". Reports of the details are to be made here.

How lovely! I'm already picturing the long, slow wave of hourly toasts gradually progressing around the globe tomorrow. Meliel and I will be adding ours, probably with her favorite beverage -- root beer!
