hi Meliel  what a beautiful name! it's great to see you here as a proper fully-fledged member of MEJ. I do envy you being introduced to Tolkien at such an early age. I didn't stumble across him until I was ten or eleven . . . I know you'll have fun here!!

Hello!!

Hi Everyone!! I see lots of familiar names on this site from a few other forums

I'm quite pleased to be part of another Tolkien site. I had been participating fairly regularly--via myspace--with two of the largest Tolkien groups there (both a "ringer" group and a "serious study" group). However, in January, we experienced a recent tragedy that took the joy out of it--our Moderator passed. We were all pretty sad about it, and it has basically rendered both groups inactive without "Professor Craig."

But it doesn't take too long to rediscover joy in Tolkien, so here I am.

I love all sorts of literature but have been I am a Fantasy/Sci Fi nerd since birth. Like most, I started with the hobbit, then the cartoon movies....then when I was older LOTR and the Sil.

Music of the Ainur is still one of my favorites (I'm a music nut too, so a creation myth from Music hit me square in the eyes). My husband and I read it (and the hobbit) to each other every so often.

Anyways--got my glasses, my pencil, my paper, my elvish dictionary...I'm ready. :)

Welcome Ananya! Glad to see you here and sympathies for your loss of Professor Craig. That. indeed, would take the wind out of everyone's sails. We hope you find the conversations here interesting and that we hear from you often. :D

Hi Ananya,
Ananya wrote: Music of the Ainur is still one of my favorites (I'm a music nut too, so a creation myth from Music hit me square in the eyes).
Oh, me too. I just love the thought of creation by song.
My husband and I read it (and the hobbit) to each other every so often.

How amazing. Before I married my husband he read me the Hobbit before going to sleep at night. I never told anyone that before.

In any case, it's so sad to read about your friend and the demise of your Tolkien group. Perhaps you know a few of them you enjoyed and would like them to follow you. Our door is open to everyone. :D

It's good to see you here too. Let's have some fun and learn something together. :reading:

I also had a beau who read to me from The Hobbit at night--loved it!

Welcome from me, too, Ananya. I have enjoyed your contributions at V-W. Tolkien is always healing, so may you have joy in the memory of your moderator and contemplating the great themes of life through JRRT.

Hi! I'm very much a Tolkein novice but want to learn more, so I thought I'd join over here and see what I could soak up. I've heard a lot about it from several of you. I'm afraid my limited knowledge comes from the LOTR movies, so I'm looking forward to it!

Nikkie, we are in the midst of discussing the book The Unfinished Tales. If you don't have the book yet you can purchase one and follow along. You learn a tremendous amount this way.

Welcome, nikkie! I met a Tolkien fan last week who made me feel like a complete novice, so it's all relative! We all have lots to learn, and I hope you enjoy yourself learning it here.

Welcome Nikkie . As Bilbo said 'It's a dangerous thing going out of your door'. You dip a toe in Middle-earth and then you discover there's a whole landscape to explore. The next thing you know you are going on very long journeys with a bit of Lembas and a whole Fellowship  . It's a LOT of fun discovering Tolkien :D .
