Hi, I'm geordie and this is my first day on Middle earth forums, though I've been lurking, on and off, for some time now.

My main passions in 'Tolkien' (apart from the marvellous stories themselves of course) are biography - I'm fascinated with Tolkien's life story, and his relationships with family and friends);

and bibliography - I'm a collector; I started out with wondering what Tolkien had written, and how to get a copy of everything: and years later, I'm still nowhere near finished!

- and Art; that is, art by Tolkien, and also art inspired by Tolkien. I love this side of the 'hobby', despite having no talent in that direction myself; and over the years I've collected many books, calendars and posters; and I've met many of the artists, and had my copies signed! (there are even a couple of originals in the geordie collection. Ted Nasmith is represented there, and Anke Eismann, and one or two others, some well known, others less well known, but all welcome! )

I like nothing better than to 'talk Tolkien', and I look forward to many happy discussions here.

And welcome to you as well, geordie!! :wave: I think you have fallen in with a bunch of kindred spirits here. We are all obviously similarly captivated by all things Tolkien. I hope we hear from you often. :D

Hello Geordie - I'm so pleased you've decided to join us, especially as you clearly love Tolkien art as much as we do :D .

geordie, you will definitely fit right in here! I, too, am interested in JRRT's biography--a quiet life on the surface, until you start to dig in.

I'm curious, since I really love Eissmann's work, too--which of her paintings do you have?

Hi, Merry: thanks to you, and to all, for your greetings. I'm looking forward to many happy chats here. As to which of Eismann's works I have - well, I'm usually a bit shy about that sort of thing, but since you ask, I'll tell you. :D

It's not a painting, but a pen and ink sketch of Thorin, poring over Thror's map. It's signed with initials, and dated '08'. The drawing is in much the same palette as that which Anke uses in her 'Beowulf' book - a lovely piece of work; I'm very pleased with it.
