Hello all, Riv Res, Mods, Amins and members. I registered especially to congratulate you on a very very beautiful site! I don’t think I’ll be posting here a lot but I promise to be a loyal lurker . Maybe with time... who’s to say?

I read a few of Tolkien’s books. LoTR of course: I own the English version and a Hebrew translation. And the Hobbit – I used to read it to my son as a bedtime story, more than 20 years ago. I also acquired the Silmarillion a few months ago, and I enjoyed it very much. Not very easy to read (I think the translation is not very good) but it’s fascinating all the same: inventing a mythology! I’m a great fan of mythologies. For us who grew up with the Bible as our history, the idea of creating a magnificent world all from scratch is amazing. And the way he’s done that is indeed worth admiration.

But, unfortunately I don’t feel confident enough to discuss these works. Not yet anyway. So let me just say that this site looks like a lot of fun and I can see what hard work was (and probably will be) invested in it. I wish you all the best and BON VOYAGE!!

Welcome Natica! I hope you visit as often as you can. I can assure you that every reader of Tolkien brings their own rich experiences with the books and that variety makes for delightful discussions.

Seeing my name next to Elizabeth’s has prodded me to step out of the woodwork (or woods) long enough to say: Hello, I am Wandlimb. I think it is a good name for me, since I am certain to be lost in many of the deeper discussions here.

I am enough of a Tolkien beginner that I went to the Encyclopedia of Arda to check out just exactly who Eönwë is:

The herald of Manwë and one of the greatest of the Maiar; he commanded the forces of the Valar during the War of Wrath.

So, it seems I’m to have a bit of a split personality here – female & male, Ent and Maia – a bit of a stretch for me. I am certainly more at home in a garden than at war, but I will be here to observe and hopefully to learn more about Tolkien and his works.

What a wonderful site this is! Congratulations to all of you who contributed. I also want to introduce myself. I am Dutch, but living in Germany. I am also a long-time Tolkien-fan. 30 years ago I read LOTR for the first time and visited it regularly ever since. I also read Hobbit, Silmarillion and Last Tales, and I read Hobbit and LOTR for my children. Since then my son was also infected, and now buys everything he can about Tolkien and the trilogy (Shippey, philosphy, it is almost a library.....). I enjoy the discussions on this website, and I will try to contribute every now and then (when I can manage to say in English what I want to say - English is not my native language). Thank you for all of your contributions

Welcome to MeJ Elorin. You made me laugh after reading how your son was 'infected'...like Tolkien was a virus. Please feel free to post...I'll be my Dutch is much worse then your English.

Congrats on this new site. It is wonderful, especially the combination of the blue with the artwork.

I thought of a more appropriate nick for this forum, but I probably will lurk most of the time. I don't consider myself as a Tolkien addict. I read most of his books when I was a teenager and although it is still high on my list of favourites, I only read them once and never came to reading them again. (This doesn't say much btw, because I've never read any book twice, because the piles with new books to be discovered are just too high.)
But Tolkien and his amazing world has always been near, because my husband reads the books at least once a year. I've shown him this site and he really liked the idea of the Tolkien calender. He is hesitant to join the forums because he thinks there is too much going on and he never can read all. Besides that he probably has learned by now how much time it takes

Hello to all! I see many familiar screen names in the Memberlist from Writers of Rohan. Just in case you haven't already guessed, yup, on that forum I'm known as Chantal, the discoverer/creator of the character Lindariel in the Group Story in the Glittering Caves and frequent contributor to their lively Tolkien forums.

As a long-time, frequent lurker on the Viggo-Works website, I realized that someone else had already laid claim to the screen name Chantal there and figured they'd probably already registered here as well. So, I decided to adopt my character's name for this forum. Let the confusion begin!

For those of you who don't know me from Writers of Rohan, I am a writer for a national nonprofit organization by day and a semi-retired opera singer and creative writer by night. And 24-hours a day, I'm a 48-year-old happily married mother of two precocious daughters, ages 9 and 3-1/2. Life is FULL!

I look forward to joining in on the conversations here from time to time. There can NEVER be enough Tolkien in our lives!
