Yes I did marbretherese. Only the cypress trees were done with a brush. All other trees and bushes and flowers are a la sponge.

One question for you...you may smack me if you wish. But why is there no border flowers past the tree by the path? Could it be you didn't have a tinnie wheenie sponge?

Philipa, if you are talking about behind the small green bush, the hill comes down and the path (and it's border flowers) disappear behind it. :)

A woman's prerogative is to change her mind and I guess that works for fledgling artists as well. I have started to re-work my original series of 12 into what I call (and personally like better) the stained glass look.

Here's the first switch. Obviously the first is the original and the second is the re-work.

I think that the change will enhance the series...at least at this point I think so.

That's stunning! It's thrown me because I like both :-k. I'd hate to lose the original versions because I really like them, but the stained glass look is wonderful too. It's hard to chose one over the other as they are both so different. Does this mean you'll drop the first versions altogether?

I have far to go in re-working the whole series. I think I will make that decision when I am finished and see how the series looks as a collection.

I'm with Iolanthe, Riv -- I have a very hard time deciding between the two! I do love the stained glass effect, but there are elements that I loved in the first that are missing in the second -- the rock splitting the stream, the line detail in the trees, the extra bushes/greenery further downstream, etc.

Can't we have both? (I'm a greedy soul!)

They both have their strengths but I must admit I prefer the stained glass look, because I love the new, stronger colours you've used, and I'm a fan of stained glass. Not that I'm trying to take anything away from the originals!! In the end, though, Riv, you'll be guided by what gives you most satisfaction at the time. What's to prevent you from changing your style on a regular basis if you want to? :D

Gorgeous work once again Riv! The red flowers around the columns remind me of bougainvilla, which I love! :D

And for me the stained glass version is defintely my favorite! I love the colors, it just stands out more!

Well done. :worship:

Maybe you should develop the second series, Riv, and run it side by side with the first  . They are all wonderful in different ways. The colours in the stained glass one are so vibrant.

It great to develop your vision - I think that's what it's all about.

\:D/ excellent.

And I have a new Gandalf ink drawing to post if I get round to scanning it. I've been poorly all day with a temperature and have been drawing obsessively to take my mind off it. You'll know just how obsessively when you see the drawing  .

Remember our cross-hatching conversation, Marbretherese?

Well, I'm guessing we'll see some rather subtle shading in this Gandalf--lots of shades of Grey? I hope you'll feel better soon.

I agree with everyone else, RR--I like both the styles. The stained glass look is lots of fun, with all its clearer colors, but now I want it to be in real stained glass, like I do with Iolanthe's pictures. Wouldn't that be stunning?

Ah, hatching and cross-hatching . . . never did quite get the hang of that!! better post that drawing soon, Iolanthe, I reckon I'll be able to learn a lot from it!

Merry, I too would love to see some real stained glass made of Iolanthe's and Riv's work. Perhaps one day . . . !!!
