This sounds like something Gandalf would say -- he is always urging thinking & action, but I don't know where or when.

No, not Gandalf. Clue: it's a bad guy!

Nope. Another clue: it was said to a dwarf.

one of the Black Riders -- to Dain at the Lonely Mountain?

Close enough, I think! Gloin told the story at the Council of Elrond of a 'messenger' from Sauron who threatened Dain in order to get information about Bilbo and the ring. Not sure if it was a Black Rider or the Mouth of Sauron, but the messenger is unnamed.

Your turn, serinde!

That was Faramir, who said it to Sam: another great scene!

Who said, "Ah, the green smell!"?

"Ah, the green smell?"

Hmmm...it sounds like Pippin. :D

No, not Pippin, Meliel, but thanks for the guess! This quote comes from a member of a race that is closely in touch with nature.

my first guess was Gollum, but he ist a Hobbit (race)

Ha! Nice guess, phyloxera, but no. The green smell isn't a cooking smell. And this is a quote from The Lord of the Rings, not The Hobbit.

you said, then I would guess Treebeard (Fangorn), but i don't know when he could say this... :?: :?:

have you got another hint for me , please

yours Frauke (who has only studied how to make wine... i am not employed at the moment , i am at home with the kids ;-) )

Then you are very usefully employed with your children!

Hint: The 'green smell' comes from the grass of Rohan.

that was it!

But it is sometimes difficult for me, because the i have to switch between german and english.. the green smell is in german der frische Duft.... green ist translated to fresch... i understand why.. but somestimes i need a little longer ;-)

It is Legolas to Aragorn and Gimli, when they arrive at Rohan.
