Thanks for the link to the name generator! I never realized that there is one and was always asking myself, where the middle-earth names of people I met came from.

I bet most people choose them for themselves (thus avoiding being Ivy Grubb ).

I'd stick with the middle list - that makes you High Queen of the Elves and Queen of the Dwarves at one and the same time, and if you're a Telcontar then you must be related to Aragorn and the new royal house . Pity about Gimli though. Perhaps you can leave him at home in the Glittering Caves while you ride about visiting your elvish, dwarvish and human minions (don't forget the crown) .

I like how the dwarf names are male and female. This kind of makes sense when you live in a cave like environment.

Variags are inhabitants of a country called Khand, in southern Middle Earth, between Mordor and Harad. They aren't Haradrim, and nothing really is said about them, which makes one wonder why Tolkien put them in at all. Maybe they were to have some crucial role in a book he never got around to writing? One website says the Variags were very loyal to Sauron whereas the Haradrim were just tricked. At least that makes a bit of sense. In fact I don't think we're even told they're humans. They might be orcs. Or elves. Or aaracokra.


The Variag ambassador was not very popular at the royal court of Gondor.

Hmmm, I'm a Revered Elf, but I don't much care for the sound of the Elven names, and the root name, as best I've been able to determine using my two Elvish dictionaries, means Horror/Dread (goroth) Ship (cair). That's not terribly positive! Or ? (go) Foam (roth) Ship (cair), which is better, but then what does the go- part mean?

I do like the idea of being named Adamanta Gamgee, though!

Good to know Lindariel is a 'meek' orc. It must have been hell at orc school.

Turns out I'm a Sword-swinging Gardner . That's one way to cut the lawn and probably explains why everything dies after I prune it.
