Good guesses, both, but it was Imrahil. I always liked Imrahil in the books, but now I've got the weird guy from the movie in my mind--wish I could get rid of him!

Your turn, librislove!

I know, Merry--being raised in or around Minas Tirith or connected in any way with Denethor seems to make one rather strange in PJs world.

OK--here we go--Who said the line below, about whom is the speaker talking, and what is the subject?

"And if any will bear him."

Okay, I know this was said of Grima Wormtongue when Theoden banished him from Rohan and offered him a horse to expedite his departure. But I'm not sure who said it--maybe Eomer? Sounds like him.

Right on all counts, Merry! Your turn. :D

Gotta love Tolkien's sense of character! Not only does he differentiate his characters by their language, but also about what they care about: Eomer often looks at things from the horses' point of view.

I'm moving soon (again!) and all my books are packed except for LOTR! I'll look around for a quote tonight.

Who said, "Pack yourself up, Master Bag!"?

This is a quote from LOTR. Try again!

And thanks for picking up this dormant thread!

Yikes, I am out of town and away from my books, so I'll check this out when I return. But the quote I'm thinking of was spoken to Merry.

Michka, you've done very well searching for this one, having to work with translations.

You'll find the answer in the chapter 'The Ride of the Rohirrim' ~~ Elfhelm says this to Merry.

Who says:

"I'll be as curious as you like after breakfast, and I'll help in any way I can wizard-wheedling."

Thanks, serinde: you are correct. At this point, Merry has been feeling as useless as baggage that has been left behind, so 'Master Bag' is an on-going joke.

Carry on!
