The Dior I am thinking of (not the handbag guy) descended fron the Edain, the Eldar, and the Maiar. Quite the lineage.

Well done Riv. Just imagine if Dior had created a line of accessories. What quality and beauty they would have been.

Though sword shall be rusted,
And throne and crown perish
With strength that men trusted

I can't believe I missed it the first time!
it goes on...
The white water flowing,
And elves are yet singing
Come! Tra-la-la-lally!
Come back to the Valley!
The singers are the elves in the tree upon Bilbo's and Gandalf's return to Rivendell.

Yes ma'am! Love that part of the book. The songs are still more for children.
Your turn Airwin.

I love the whole Rivendell chapter in the Hobbit. The song should have rang a bell.

Here's a level 2 question:
Who lived at Amon Rûdh and Nulukkizdîn? What is another name for the latter location?

by Lindariel
Ah! We're wandering in Beleriand, I see! Both locations are associated with the Petty-Dwarf Mim. Here are the entries from The Encyclopedia of Arda:
Amon Rudh -- The Bald Hill that lay south of Brethil in West Beleriand. The house of Mîm the Petty-dwarf lay within this hill, and it was for a time the base of Túrin Turambar and his outlaws.
Nulukkizdin -- A mansion of the Petty-dwarves, carved out of the rocks beside the River Narog in West Beleriand. When the Noldor returned to Beleriand, the Dwarves lost their ancient home, and Finrod Felagund founded Nargothrond in its place. Centuries later, when Nargothrond in its turn had been overthrown, the last of the Petty-dwarves returned here to reclaim Nulukkizdîn. This was Mîm, the betrayer of Túrin, and he was slain among the ruins by Túrin's father Húrin.

Excellent answer Lindariel!

Can you also tell me another name for Petty-dwarves? Either way I'm turning it over to you.

Ahhh The Encyclopedia of Arda is a Goddess send I'll tell you. Terrific resourse.

The Petty-Dwarves were also called Nibin-noeg, Nibin-Nogrim, and Noegyth Nibin.
Here's a level 1.5 question: What inspired the design and building of Nargothrond?

by Philipa
Off the top of my head here...wasn't it Ulmo who told Finrod to build a home. And wasn't it Menegroth which was the inspiration of Finrod's to build underground as the Dwarves did? If memory serves me correctly the Dwarves also helped build the fortress...probably because their hate of Morgoth too.

Menegroth was the answer I was looking for Philipa. Thingol's magnificent fortress was Finrod's inspiration for the founding of Nargothrond. Well done!
Here's the entry on Nargothrond from The Encyclopedia of Arda:
Nargothrond: The stronghold and realm of Finrod Felagund, founded by him on the model of the halls of Menegroth in Doriath.
The stronghold of Nargothrond was carved into the rock beneath Taur-en-Faroth, and could only be approached by a narrow path along the high banks of the River Narog. No bridge was built across the river until late in its history. The citadel long lay hidden from Morgoth, and was ruled wisely for long years by Finrod. After he was lost in the Quest of the Silmaril, his brother Orodreth expelled the usurping sons of Fëanor, Celegorm and Curufin, and was lord in Nargothrond.
The lands to the north of the citadel were considered part of its realm, and the people of Nargothrond kept unceasing watch on the grasslands to the north, the Talath Dirnen or Guarded Plain.
When Túrin dwelt in Nargothrond, he persuaded the Elves who dwelt there to change their long policy of secrecy, and openly attack the servants of Morgoth. So the Dark Lord discovered the city's location, and sent out an army under Glaurung to sack and destroy it.
Your turn, Philipa!
