Oh, how beautiful!
I think my love of trees has grown hand-in-hand with my love for Tolkien. Men were hacking down a beloved oak with chain saws on our campus yesterday (it had a large crack in it and was hollow down the center, and so a menace in a windstorm, they said), and I found myself kind of grieving for it throughout the day.

I can see why you've called it Mallorn Tree, there is something very elegant and elvish about the sweep of the branches.
Glad you've posted one of your photos here, Philipa, it's nice to see our world through Tolkien inspired eyes. I'm a tree lover to and wept buckets as a child when the very old tamarisk in our front garden had to be cut down. I really felt as though a friend had died.

Thank you ladies.

Another project I used to do was write poems in the character's voices. Unfortunately, I can't find the right journal with them in it.

I'll do some more hunting when the house is quiet.

Well, I really haven't had time to do more than sketch out my Lothlorien painting, so in the meantime here's what started out as a doodle and then somehow became Gandalf.
I'll probably use this as a basis for a better, more carefully done drawing but I rather like the look of him so here he is:
Gandalf

My Goddess I wish I could doodle like that. I like him very much Iolanthe. Can't wait to see the finished product.

Amazing! He's looking down, maybe at a hobbit, and he looks a little bristly, one of those 'don't be more of a fool than you have to' looks?

Ah the man himself! I love it CA. He looks like the grandfather we'd all love to have doesn't he?

Yes! or the professor we wish we had (although the mumbling might have been an issue).
Very nice.
