Oh Riv! It's SOOOOOOOOO lovely! What a splendid place to read, write, think . . . take a nap.

As I said before, I wish I could move this right into my house as my office!

Wonderful! I guess I had always imagined the room as Spartan, with poor Bilbo sitting on a cushion on the bare floor with his pen and paper. But of course they would give him his own hobbitty corner.

I particularly like the windows!
Sing and be glad, all ye children of the West,
for your King shall come again,
and he shall dwell among you
all the days of your life.

And the beautiful roundel over the fireplace - just like something Tolkien would have drawn!

It's lovely Riv. I'm moving to Middle-earth now and I'm staying in ALL these places  .
Now let the song begin! Let us sing together
Of sun, stars, moon and mist, rain and cloudy weather...

Andrew Butler, Editor of Amon Hen (bless him) has given us a mention after publishing Marbretherese's Lothlorien poem. He mentions that both of us 'along with another artist I hope to feature soon [that would by you, Riv!] - have work on display at www.middle-earth-jouneys.com, if you'd care to look.'

Fantastic - I hope it will bring new members here :D . Marbretherese - you should now submit 'Sam' to him, you really must.

He's also reproduced Marbretherese's poem with a beautiful illustrated letter heading and an intro '... it's not often that our contributers take on the challenge of creating a sestina. What follows is a rare example...'

And Mallorn has arrived. What can I say? Becky's got one of her beautiful and intricate designs on the cover and he's put SIX of my paintings and drawings in the journal    . I could kiss him. Four are full page and full colour: Isengard, Goldberry, Old Man Willow and Cirith Ungol. Two are smaller and are ink drawings: Denethor and Aragorn with the Palantir. To say I'm gobsmacked is and understatement, I expected Isengard and Cirith Ungol, and hoped Denethor was still in, but never expected this. What a boost.

It's great news, isn't it? I was really chuffed with the mention of MEJ and its artists alongside my poem, and Iolanthe's Gandalf the White looks lovely on the front cover of Amon Hen. I must email Andrew and thank him.

As for Mallorn, it looks superb - Henry Gee has enlisted the help of a Production Editor and you can really see the difference. Easy to read, excellent layout, Iolanthe's artworks shown to full advantage, Becky's beautiful cover! And in his editorial he mentions the book which got me writing poetry again, Stephen Fry's The Ode Less Travelled.

I probably will submit Spring to Amon Hen. I might even dust off the Ballad of Sam Gamgee to go with it, although it already has fifteen verses and needs another to go with the picture, so how he'd fit it in I don't know :D Still getting used to the fact that I'm a published poet . . . .
"Torment in the dark was the danger that I feared, and it did not hold me back.
But I would not have come, had I known the danger of light and joy."

WOW! Ladies, I'm SO impressed. Can't wait to get my hands on both publications to see your work in print for myself. And how FABULOUS that it also snared a mention for MeJ!

It's a wonderful boost for all of us, Lindariel :D . I never imagined, when I started this thread to encourage us in Tolkien inspired works, it would lead to this.

And yes, marbretherese, you must put in that extra verse so the poem and the painting come together.

I've emailed a big thank you to Andrew and Henry.

BTW - everytime I scroll past Riv's picture at the top I want to set up my paints and pens and work there. I think we should make it our thread opening picture so that in spirit it's our artistic home....Riv?????

Hhmmm...I don't know Iolanthe. I would sorely miss Tolkien's World. It is a marvelously inclusive piece. Bilbo's Corner is a cozy place though. Hhmmm... :-k

wow, that's all I can think when I've read about the recognition you've all been given (and soon for Riv). This place will become a hot bed of Tolkien artists and writers.

Wouldn't it be cool to be like this virtual Tolkien artist colony...wait, I guess we are one.
