Tolkien paintings are like buses, aren't they? you don't do any for ages and then two come along at once. That's what comes of visiting the Tolkien Art Exhibition at Moreton-in-Marsh!

I like these very much, marbretherese. The repetition of pattern in the first one is very pleasing, and I always like pictures of gardens! Tom Bombadil's, right? So very Tolkien: Frodo spends the night having scary dreams of what's outside and, when he wakes up to look, runner beans! You've captured the freshness of that moment well.

You've captured the mist in the mountains so well. And I'd love to look out my window and see his view. :D

What marbretherese hasn't mentioned is that in the eagle painting she's only used TWO colours!

I especially love the Frodo one - bed-hair and all! It's a great moment to capture, with the clouds like 'stained cotton wool' (yes - I just had to go and read it again  ).

Elegaer - I hope your copy of Mallorn turns up tomorrow! Your painting works so well with the new cover format. In fact the whole journal looks great now it's had a revamp :D .

Thanks everyone! Yes, I'm quite proud of Frodo's bed-head :D . I wanted to capture that tousled look . . . the two colours in the eagle painting are the same ones I used for the Swan - cobalt blue and raw sienna. In fact, I've used so much cobalt blue recently that I've had to put it away - don't want to get into a rut!!

These are lovely marbretherese! How nice to come back from a VERY busy weekend to two new paintings!

This was technical week and performances for the younger Miss L (age 7), who appeared as a Munchkin in our local high school's production of The Wizard of Oz. Rather than using high school kids in knee pads for the Munchkins, the drama and musical directors worked with our elementary school music teacher to cast 25 kindergarten, first, and second graders as the Munchkins. The kids were the hit of the show, and young Miss L had a wonderful, wonderful experience participating in her first musical theatre performance. Her stage Mom, however, is EXHAUSTED!!!

Great to hear that the younger Miss L is treading the boards at an early age. In my time in amateur operatics I've seen some very young children come through the ranks (as it were) and go on to all sorts of wonderful things . . . how fabulous that she's following the family tradition of live performance!

Glad you liked the paintings, too! hope you will be more rested by the time you read this :D

I've finally got a finished Ent to post. Gawd they are hard to visualise and paint! This has changed a little since the original drawing but the pose is basically the same. She has the straw coloured 'hair', bent figure and rosy cheeks that Treebeard describes:

Fimbrethil

I've made this one a clicky as there is too much detail to see properly at this size...

I agree! This is just going to make me smile all day long! I like the style of this series a lot, the palette and the frame, etc. But you've tackled something here that I've never seen before, and it really works! I'm sure the journals will love to publish this one, too.

I'm so glad you like it! I've seen hardly any attempts at an Ent Wife, especially doing what Entwives do. She seems very approprate for Earth Day  . I'll definitely be taking her to Oxonmoot!

MARVELOUS Iolanthe! Fimbrethil makes such a nice contrast to Old Man Willow. She's LOVELY! Wouldn't you just love to spend the day helping her dig in the garden and transplant stuff and . . . hum? And I don't even LIKE to garden!
